RELAN

The Revista Latinoamericana de Agricultura y Nutrición (RELAN) is our communication bridge between the technological and scientific achievements of graduates and their advisors. Our audience is mainly professors, students, and any other person interested in the topics covered in the journal. It includes three types of articles: 1) summaries of the theses financed by the Institute, 2) results of research done by BYU professors, and 3) articles written by Latin American professionals. This journal is only available in Spanish.


 

Volume 1.1

The first issue (January-June 1996) focuses on balanced concentrations for poultry in Guatemala, the quality of the milk in Ecuador

 

Volume 1.2

The Summer 1997 issue studies the parasitology of the Pejerrey in Peru and the state of nutrition, health and production in Ecuador.


 

Volume 1.3

The third edition (May 1998) of the journal focuses on research done in Bolivia on regional crops, such as atriplex, sea buckthorn and comfrey, as well as the nutritional situation of the rural population. It also includes information about organic fertilizers in Guatemala and various cases of the transfer of technology in Mexico and in the United States.

 

Volume 1.4

The topics presented in this Special Edition of our journal (December 1998) are based primarily on the research done by students from the Department of Nutrition of the Guatemala San Carlos University.

 

Volume 1.5

The fifth edition (November 2000) of the journal includes information about regional Bolivian crops, such as beets, quinoa, and soybean. Also included is the rural women's role in Ecuador, as well as their nutrition and health status during pregnancy.

Franco Impronta and Doctor Richard Kellens performed an investigation on quinoa in a natural setting. Washed and refined quinoa, along with wheat based diets, were used as chicken fodder. Subsequently, a study was performed on the behavior and survival rates among nourished chickens.

Volume 3, Number 1 (December, 2007)
This volume includes Implementation of different levels of the byproducts benefited from quinoa to feed guinea pigs. Relationship between anemia, the consumption of iron and intestinal parasitic infections in children under five years in Imbabura.


Volume 2, Number 4 (March, 2005)
This volume presents studies on the effects of orientation and direction of furrows in pankar huyus in lettuce production. It also includes implementation and strengthening of family gardens, setting protein profile, and obtaining and tasting high energy mush.


Volume 2, Number 3 (July, 2004)
This volume presents the use of hydric resources in some communities in Bolivia, nutritional education in Bolivia and Ecuador, varieties of tomatoes under the “panqar huyu” system, the use of substrates for production of earthworm humus, etc.


Volume 2, Number 2 (September, 2003)
This volume presents the effects of various foods consumption in Bolivia, semen extraction in alpaca males, and yield and quality of fiber obtained from Angora rabbits in Bolivia. The volume also presents validation of small-scale agriculture production in Ecuador.


Volume 2, Number 1 (July, 2002)
This volume includes information about community promoters’ education in Ecuador, community cooperation for health conditions improvement, food development, and evaluation and nutritional situation in Bolivia.
